About The Climate Reality Project
THE CLIMATE REALITY PROJECT'S MISSION IS TO CATALYZE A GLOBAL SOLUTION TO THE CLIMATE CRISIS BY MAKING URGENT ACTION A NECESSITY ACROSS EVERY LEVEL OF SOCIETY.
The Earth is facing a climate crisis, driven by fossil fuels. Climate Reality aims to make urgent action a necessity. In politics. In business. In every aspect of our lives. Everywhere.
Led by former US Vice President Al Gore and CEO and President Ken Berlin, we do it by empowering people everywhere across many ages and occupations to become activists, equipped with the tools, training, and network to fight for solutions and drive change planet-wide. The result is over 19,000 Climate Reality Leaders mobilizing communities in over 150 countries. Together, we add up to a powerful movement growing by the day. One by the people. Of the people. For the planet. Join us.
About The Northern New Mexico Chapter
WE ARE A GROUP OF DIVERSE AND PASSIONATE CLIMATE ACTIVISTS FOSTERING THE MISSION OF THE CLIMATE REALITY PROJECT, TO MOBILIZE COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN NEW MEXICO TO TAKE ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE, TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE AND EQUITABLE FUTURE.
Founded in January 2019, the Northern New Mexico Chapter has become a home base for Climate Reality Leaders and other climate activists in Northern New Mexico, including Albuquerque. Our members bring together a wealth of diverse expertise and activism skills on climate issues and solutions to transition New Mexico towards a sustainable and equitable future.
We are united by our passion and determination to work with community members and policy makers to ensure New Mexico will be a leader in reducing greenhouse gases, transitioning to renewable sources of energy, and meeting the standards set by the Paris Climate Agreement of 2016 and the IPCC report of October 2018.
We welcome community members in New Mexico who share the same passion to avert our climate crisis and help heal our Mother Earth to Join Us.

Our Climate Actions
WE WELCOME, TRAIN AND SUPPORT NEW AND CURRENT MEMBERS IN OUR CHAPTER TO CONDUCT CLIMATE PRESENTATIONS AND CLIMATE ACTIONS
Climate presentations, aimed at raising awareness of the urgency of the climate crisis and its solutions across all sectors of society, is a core practice of Climate Reality. Within the Chapter, we focus on helping members develop their skills by workshops, mentoring, networking with their communities, and ongoing support to deliver presentations that begin with a personal narrative and develop into shared narratives that are focussed and relevant to their audiences.
We conduct climate actions and campaigns spearheaded by Climate Reality such as the 100% Committed campaign, the County Climate Coalition campaign and others. We also collaborate with other environmental groups, such as Sierra Club, Citizens Climate Lobby, 350NewMexico etc. in joint local climate actions, to amplify our voices and efforts. We advocate our elected officials to put climate first in their policies to transition New Mexico to a safe, equitable and sustainable future.
You too, can take part in this Sustainability Revolution sweeping the globe. Join Us.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
Why we have to act here and now in New Mexico
CONFRONTING CLIMATE CHANGE IN NEW MEXICO - ACTION IS NEEDED TODAY TO PREPARE THE STATE FOR A HOTTER, DRIER FUTURE - Union of Concerned Scientists
"Climate change is altering fundamental weather patterns - affecting temperatures, water availability, and weather extremes - that shape the lives of New Mexicans. As a result, the infrastructure and resource-management plans designed for the conditions of the past may not meet future needs of the farmers, ranchers, outdoor enthusiasts, and other residents of New Mexico.
New Mexico's climate is getting hotter and drier, driven by regional and global warming trends. This means earlier springs, hotter summers, and less predictable winters. Precipitation patterns are also changing, with more intense droughts and a greater proportion of precipitation falling as rain rather than snow. Shrunken snowpacks and earlier snowmelts contribute to lower stream flows at critical times of the year, resulting in greater economic and environmental consequences.
To prepare for the expected impacts of these climate trends, New Mexico would benefit from sustained efforts to mitigate the potential consequences of less water, the health impacts of more excessive heat, and increased losses of lives and property from wildfires, while safeguarding the state's natural resources.
When the state empowers its people to make better choices for themselves - backed up by forward looking investments - the people of New Mexico can forge a new path to a resilient future, as they have done many times before. The challenge today is for New Mexico to take the steps necessary to effectively manage and reduce the impacts of climate change and ensure the future security of the state and its residents.
Other regions of the world can look to New Mexico's growing leadership on planning for water-scarce stress periods and increasing drought-resilient renewable energy sources."

We must, we can and we will solve the climate crisis
EARTHRISE - A POEM BY AMANDA GORMAN, INAUGURAL YOUTH POET LAUREATE OF US, 2018
This poem reminds us that the Earth is our common and only home, and we are not only citizens of any one country, but Earthlings. Not only are we a part of our Mother Earth, but we are unequivocally interconnected with all beings - living and inanimate - of our planet. It inspires us to take action, to restore the infinitely intricate balance nature had in place for millennia, and to extinguish the existential threat now facing not only animals and plants species, but humankind as well.
Within the extremely narrow window of time left for us to be able to effectively avert calamitous consequences on our planet, we are exhorted to exert our best most determined effort, so we can pass on to our future generations a safe and sustainable world, one where they can know the beauty, the diversity and the benign life-sustaining cradle of nature we have known in ours and past generations.
Humanity has come together in the past to overcome insurmountable hardships. This climate crisis can and will be overcome by people joining forces from every corner of the world, without boundaries. Let us not fail our future generations, but let them remember us as the heroic generation.
